Jackson's Mill Jubilee 2011

Helen Dionne Horsemanship Clinic for want-to-be horse owners, as well as new or established riders, looking for helpful horse information

Family entertainment at its best!

Last year's Jubilee brought out over 12,000 attendees.  Each year the event gets better and better. Not only will visitors be able to stroll through plenty of beautiful space, as they enjoy the music, arts, and crafts, but a NEW large equine facility will be there to greet them!

WVU Jacksonís Mill is home to West Virginia's 4-H camping.  It's rustic-style conference and gala facility is situated in an historic heritage-based setting a few miles outside of Weston, West Virginia.

It's also home to the West Virginia Fire Academy, a one-of-a-kind training facility for volunteer and professional firefighters from around the state and nation.

WVU plans to expand on its new equine facility, and we encourage horse enthusiasts to take notice while attending this year's Jubilee. Central West Virginia has long needed a facility built specifically for equine events, and we sincerely appreciate WVU recognizing the need.

Some facts regarding WVU Jackson's Mills:

  • Site of the boyhood home of General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.

  • The Old Mill, the last of the original buildings, features a museum of artifacts relating to 19th century WV homesteads.

  • Other period structures include an operational 1794 water-powered gristmill, a weaving shop, blacksmith shop, a 1793 cabin, and a gift shop & heritage center.

Helen Dionne is an experienced professional horse trainer and riding instructor who works everyday with horses. She got her first horse when she was 33, in 1968, and began barrel racing and endurance riding. A member of the West Virginia Arabian Horse Association for the past 19 years, she has had champions in all divisions.

Helen loves all horse breeds, but feels closest to Arabians, and states ďArabian horses are misunderstood and get a bad rapĒ. She encourages those interested in horses to come see for themselves how wonderful Arabians truly are.
